Give your Guinness a Caribbean twist with this classic Jamaican Guinness Punch recipe

Guinness is - without a doubt - Ireland's most famous alcoholic drink.

But what you might not know is that Guinness is also the main ingredient in an old Jamaican classic that has been around the West Indies for generations.

'Guinness Punch' is a sweet and milky alcoholic drink that uses spices - and a splash of rum if you want an extra kick - to give the dry Irish stout a Caribbean twist.

Though ingredients may vary from recipe to recipe - it's common for the drink to consist of Guinness, milk, vanilla drink and flavouring, and nutmeg and cinnamon.

If you want to give it a try, Craig and Shaun McAnuff of Instagram account @originalflava have a recipe that you can easily whip up at home.

The brothers introduced their recipe for Guinness Punch in a short clip to their 109k followers on Instagram.

For their recipe you will need:

  • 3 x 325ml bottles of Guinness
  • Vanilla drink (they recommend Nourishment or Enrich)
  • Carnation Evaporated Milk
  • A sprinkle of cinnamon
  • A sprinkle of Nutmeg
  • Half a teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • Ice

Talking to camera, Craig and Shaun say: "I know your granddad, your dad, your uncle have definitely had this drink in their time.

"If they haven't - they'll love it.

"Start off with the Guinness, guys - two bottles of 325ml.

"Vanilla drink - you can use Nourishment or Enrich.

"Next, Carnation milk, cinnamon and nutmeg - just sprinkle a bit on top.

"Vanilla extract - probably about half a teaspoon."

The brothers then add another bottle of Guinness to fill their serving jug to the top.

The punch is then stirred from the bottom and served in a glass with ice.

In the comments section, fans rushed to share their views of the brothers' recipe.

And one user even suggested a flavour upgrade.

Instagram user @a.g.a_cleaningandmaintenance posted: "Try Guinness, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla essence, peanut butter, oats/granola, condensed milk. It will change your life."

And for an extra boozy kick @electric_hueman commented: "Add a likkle splash of Wray & Nephew," which - if you don't already know - is a very popular and very strong Jamaican rum (63%).
