Your blood may be invaluable to someone in need, and this summer a Red Cross blood donation can even put some money in your pocket.
Despite a strong response to an emergency call for blood and platelet donations earlier this month, the American Red Cross is still facing a critical shortage.
"The blood supply is like a cell phone battery, it constantly needs recharging," said Maya Franklin, spokeswoman for the Red Cross. "We sincerely appreciate those who have responded to the call to help save lives and encourage those who haven't to consider rolling up a sleeve and give the gift of life. It only takes about an hour but can mean a lifetime for patients."
To show its gratitude, the Red Cross will email $5 Target eGiftCards to people who donate blood or platelets to the organization now through Aug 31.
