'Give us the trophy already' - Arsenal fans go crazy as Liverpool face Carabao Cup investigation

Arsenal's fourth round opponents Liverpool could face expulsion from the Carabao Cup, according to reports.

The Athletic claim that the Reds are being investigated by the EFL after fielding an ineligible player in their third round win over League One side Milton Keynes Dons.

Should they be found to be guilty, then Jurgen Klopp's men could face being thrown out of the competition meaning that Arsenal wouldn't face the prospect of facing the Premier League leaders in their aim of making it to the at least the quarter final stage of the tournament.

A Liverpool spokesman told the Athletic: "The club are aware of a potential administrative issue pertaining to one of our players.

"We are working with the relevant authorities in order to establish the facts of the matter and will be making no further comment until this process is complete."

If after the investigation, the EFL find that Liverpool did break the rules, a choice between whether to issue a fine or to throw them out of the competition will be made.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer previews Arsenal clash

Liverpool vs Arsenal was one of the mouthwatering ties of the round, but upon hearing the news of the investigation, Gunners fans made it clear as to what they want to happen, while also showing their delight at the possible expulsion.

If recent history is anything to go by, then a fine would be the most likely outcome, however, Arsenal fans will be hoping that the EFL decide to take the hardest possible action against Liverpool
