'Give us a call hun' - Opticians' hilarious response as vaccine protesters target store below MP's office

Quick-witted opticians gave the perfect response after protesters targeted their Stockport store with anti- Covid vaccine passport stickers.

Staff at Station Road Opticians in Cheadle Hulme were shocked to see the material stuck on their store's back window last Friday (July 30).

They believe the stickers were likely to have been aimed at Mary Robinson, Conservative MP for Cheadle, whose constituency office is directly above the opticians.

But after the protesters left their mark on the shop below, the team at Station Road Opticians saw the funny - and rather ironic - side.

In a post on the store's Facebook page, Station Road Opticians wrote: "We got tagged by protesters on our office window...

"Considering the politician it was aimed at is on an entirely different floor we think the culprit may need to come and have an eye test?!

While the amusing response made light of the incident, director Deepak Oberai said staff who first noticed the stickers on Friday were initially shaken by it.

The stickers are also an inconvenience for the business - and another one has been added to the premises since the weekend.

Mr Oberai said: "When my colleague who noticed it came into the store on Friday she was really nervous. I said 'don't worry, take a picture and share it on social media'.

"When I looked at the reach from that post, about 10,000 people had seen it, which for a small business is really rare.

"They are properly stuck on, we've not taken them down yet. We've seen another sticker this morning on a different window.

"Whatever your views are, you don't need to vandalise a building."

Mr Oberai says Greater Manchester Police is aware of the incident.

Ms Robinson has expressed her sympathy for the business below her office.

She said: "There are often divisive issues on which people have strong views and seek to express them in a variety of different ways.

"I am always very sorry when these strong views affect local businesses and inconvenience them, as has happened in this case."
