'Give Alison King all the awards!' - Fans react as Carla Connor comes home to Coronation Street

Viewers have praised powerful scenes as missing Carla Connor returned to the cobbles after weeks of being on the run.

Roy Cropper came home to his flat to find Carla waiting for him, and worried about the state she was in, he called an ambulance to get help for his friend.

Carla was living in squalor after suffering a mental breakdown and escaping from Weatherfield following the collapse of her Underworld factory and the death of Rana Habeeb.

Loved-ones had been frantically trying to find her and she finally went home after overhearing her dad Johnny and Roy talking about her during their search.

The Corrie cafe owner was upset to find Carla in a distressed and paranoid state, believing that Rana is still alive and that her half sister Kate Connor is out to get her by hiding her.

She also asked to see her late half brother Aidan, who tragically took his own life last year.

Viewers applauded the scenes during Mental Health Awareness Week.

TV writer Andy Gibson said: "Alison King is doing wonders for us sufferers. The accuracy of her portrayal is scarily phenomenal."

Viewer Abigail Rose tweeted: "Hats off to @ITVCorrie for airing these Carla episodes this week #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek so proud of my fav TV show."

And Louise MacAllister said: "Poor Carla. Alison King is a phenomenal actress."

She added: "Give Alison King all the awards! Her portrayal of Carla’s mental health is just heartbreaking."

Roy returned from a trip to Portsmouth and was shocked to see missing posters for Carla and he and Johnny went to the hotel where Robert Preston saw her last week.

They were horrified at the state of her hotel room and discovered she had left her kidney medication behind.

Johnny and Roy vowed to continue the search, and Roy wasn't expecting her to be back at his flat where she had lived with him before the factory collapse in March.

Coronation Street fans have questions as missing Carla 'magically' appears in Roy's flat

An ambulance was called and Carla screamed at Roy and her dad that she would never forgive them for betraying her.
