Giuseppe Rossi taking things ‘day by day’ with Man Utd amid Tottenham transfer links

Free agent Giuseppe Rossi says he is taking things ‘day by day’ as he trains with Man Utd in search of a new club.

The 31-year-old Italian forward, who was raised in the United States, has been linked with a move to Tottenham following the ankle injury sustained by star striker Harry Kane last weekend.

Rossi has been without a club since leaving Genoa last summer, with his career having been plagued by a series of knee injuries.

Having graduated from United’s academy, he would later move to LaLiga in 2007 when he was signed by Villarreal – then coached by now West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini.

Tottenham have tried to signed Rossi in the past, but failed with a £35million transfer deadline day bid for the Italian back in 2011.

“I'm just taking it, really, day by day,” Rossi told Simon Peach of the Press Association. “I don't want to go too far out, in thinking what might happen or what's going to happen - I'm enjoying my moment now.

“I'm training with Manchester United, I'm training with the best players in the world, and it's a privilege.

“So like I say, taking it day by day, and again whatever happens... happens and I'll deal with it whenever I get phone calls or don't get phone calls.”

"This just shows you how much of a family Manchester United is," Rossi continued, when quizzed on what it’s like to be back at Carrington. "They have always taken care of their players.

"It's a real privilege to have this opportunity and be given this opportunity. It feels really good.

"When I heard about this opportunity it just brought so much joy.

"It's great to be playing with these exceptional players that I've been training with. It's helping me stay fit and stay sharp because if you're not sharp they'll definitely be on you.

"I make sure that I'm doing the best I can to better myself but also to help the team do the right things in training."
