Girvan make big signing as former West Premiership star joins ranks

Girvan have today signed former Hurlford United keeper Ally Brown.

The West League One promotion hopefuls tempted the 33-year-old, who started his career at Edinburgh giants Hibernian, out of retirement.

Experienced Brown has previously starred for Raith Rovers, Ayr United, Stenhousemuir and Forfar Athletic and was player-of-the-year at West Premiership big guns Hurlford last season.

Seasiders boss Ian Patterson confirmed his new recruit would go straight into the squad for this Saturday's trip to Lanark United and believes Brown's arrival is a statement of intent.

He told Ayrshire Live: "Ally had retired in the summer but he comes to our club with great experience.

"It's a good statement of intent from the club. He will be a key part of the squad and it's probably one of the biggest signings we have made in the last few years.

"He has had offers from the Premiership while I've pestered him for two or three years to come and play for me!"

Girvan lie in 10th place in the table but have games in hand on all of their rivals due to their participation in the Scottish Cup last month.
