Stage 6 of the Giro d'Italia was one for the GC contenders to avoid mixing it up in the sprint finish into Naples and stay safe.
As predicted, there was a mass crash inside the final kilometre as race organisers added a section of cobblestones that became slick in a light rainfall.
Portugal's Afonso Eulálio (Bahrain-Victorious) stayed safe in the peloton to keep the race lead.
Eulálio claimed the jersey from a successful breakaway on stage 5, and leads by 2:51 over his escape companion Igor Arrieta (UAE Team Emirates-XRG). Christian Scaroni (XDS Astana Team), also part of that breakaway, is third overall, 3:34 back.
Andrea Raccagni Noviero (Soudal-QuickStep) is fourth at 3:39 while Johannes Kulset (Uno-X Mobility) lies in fifth at 5:17.
Former maglia rosa Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek) continues in sixth overall at 6:12, while three riders are tied on time at 6:16: Jan Christen (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) in seventh, Florian Stork (Tudor Pro Cycling) in eighth, and Egan Bernal (Netcompany Ineos) in ninth.
Thymen Arensman (Netcompany Ineos) rounds out the top 10, tied with Giulio Pellizzari (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) in 11th with a 6:18 deficit.
Race favourite Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) is in 15th overall, 6:22 behind Eulálio.
