‘Girls Trip’ director Malcolm D. Lee to take over on ‘Space Jam 2’

Perhaps it was only a matter of time, especially with the volume that SpringHill Entertainment creates content these days, but it won’t be a small story that their biggest production to date is undergoing a major change during a crucial summer for ‘Space Jam 2.’

Malcolm D. Lee, the most well-known as being the director of the 2017 hit Girls Trip, has replaced Terence Nance as the director for the reboot of the 1996 classic, according to Deadline.

Deadline’s reporting suggests that the parting of ways between Nance and the rest of the production was ‘amicable,’ but that it occurred due to different takes in the creative aspect of the film, which is a pretty huge deal. But since the film is produced by SpringHill Entertainment and is a Warner Bros. legacy project, it appears that Nance lost out in a power struggle.

And given that LeBron’s name is all over the production, it would be foolish to assume he wasn’t one of the people had a creative difference with Nance. As for Lee, he has a track record with creating comedy hits and he joins a strong basketball cast that also added some serious acting chops in Don Cheadle.
