Girls make up care packages for staff at St John's Hospital

Two girls from West Lothian have been making care bags to hand out to the maternity ward at St John’s Hospital.

Cousins, Lillie-Mai and Eilidh Redmond, from Blackburn have been saving their pocket money up to make the packages and have over 30 prepared already.

Four year old, Mai, is due to start school at Blackburn Primary alongside her big cousin Eilidh, aged 11, this August and it was the younger cousin who came up with the idea.

Her mum, Kayla, explained: “Lillie-Mai decided she wanted to help people who don’t have much money, so she was originally donating them to the homeless.

“The pandemic was then announced and I was explaining to her that some people are unable to get out to the shops, so she asked if she could make some more bags up.

“Her cousin is now helping her to shop for items and helping her to make more bags up. They’re planning to donate their bags to the maternity ward at St John’s Hospital.

“At the moment they have 32 care bags and there are more items being ordered.
