Girls football team become first to win BOYS' LEAGUE after flawless season

An all-girls junior football team has become the first in Britain to win a boys’ league - after joining because they had no-one to play.

SB Frankfort under 12s even went unbeaten in the season winning 13 of their 16 games this season, drawing the other three - and scoring 73 goals.

They were so successful they have been declared champions of the DJM boy’s league two games before the end of the season.

The girls from the team based in Plymouth, Devon, are believed to be the first in the UK to win a boys league.

The achievement caps a remarkable rise after they were only formed four years ago as there were no other female sides in the area.

Head Coach James Brown-Tunnell said: “A fantastic achievement for the whole squad.

“Everyone has played their part this season.

“This has been four years in the making and I couldn’t be happier.

“The main aim by joining the boys league was for the girls to be challenged, so it’s amazing to end up league winners.

“There may have been doubters, but the girls have proved they deserve to play against boys on a weekly basis.”
