Girls Aloud's Kimberley Walsh admits causing 'drama' over new music as she clears up rumours

Kimberley Walsh has cleared up rumours about Girls Aloud releasing new music this year, admitting that she was responsible for causing some 'drama' earlier this week.

It'll soon be 21 years since one of the most successful girl groups of all time were formed on ITV talent show Popstars: The Rivals. After their landed an immediate Christmas number 1 with their debut single Sound of the Underground, the band went onto top the charts with I'll Stand By You, Walk This Way and The Promise, before taking a break in 2009.

They returned with a bang in 2012 with comeback single Something New and their Ten greatest hits collection, which spawned a sell out arena tour of the same name a few months later.

Girls Aloud and their fans were left devastated in September 2021 with Sarah Harding died at the age of just 39, after a brave battle with cancer. The group reunited for a gala in her honour near the end of last year and, fans were left very excited when Kimberley hinted that she, Cheryl, Nadine and Nicola were planning on releasing some music this year.

However, she's now confirmed, in an interview on Steph's Packed Lunch, that they won't be going into the studio to record anything new.

Explaining all to host Steph McGovern, she said: "Steph I’ve caused a bit of drama so I think I need to clear that up. There’s been a bit of news reporting that we’ve done new music, we haven’t, unfortunately."

She continued: "We just wanted to do something to mark 20 years, we have obviously had such a tough year with losing Sarah, which was unthinkable.”

“We’re releasing really fun stuff for the fans to make it nice for them. There's alternate vocal arrangements of different girls singing lines on different songs, including ‘Sound Of The Underground."
