Girls, 15, allegedly raped at Surfers Paradise beach resort on New Year's Eve

Three men are being questioned over the alleged assault.

Three men are being questioned by police over the alleged rape and sexual assault of two 15-year-old girls, who they met on the beach in Surfers Paradise on Thursday night.

Acting Chief Superintendent Geoff Sheldon said the alleged sexual assaults happened in a holiday resort.

"A 15-year-old girl has come to the concierge in a semi-naked state, in a distressed state and police were called," Acting Chief Superintendent Sheldon said.

"In investigations in relation to that, it turns out that three girls, all 15, were on the beach and they met three young fellows and they went back to the room.

"And it turns out that they've been sexually assaulted and a complaint has been made.

"Three people are in custody at the moment, pending the finalisation of what charges may or may not be preferred."

Acting Chief Superintendent Sheldon said charges against a 22-year-old man were expected to be laid.

"At this stage, it looks like there will be at least one offence of rape in relation to the assault on these girls," he said.

He said the investigation was in its early stages, but it was understood two of the girls were assaulted.

"They met on the beach and the three girls came back to the unit where the three men were staying and it's gone downhill from there basically," he said.

"I think it's been one of those alcohol events that have had a very, very serious consequence for all concerned."
