The partner of a man who was stabbed to death outside his home in east London has said her "heart will never be the same".

James Markham, 45, was killed on Monday night after confronting a group of youths who were shouting outside his home on Churchill Terrace, Chingford.

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with his murder along with possession of a knife in a public place and breach of a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).

Candice Roberts, who said she was "devoted" to Mr Markham for 25 years, described him as "her world".

In a statement, Ms Roberts said: "We are so thankful to the ambulance service, the air ambulance and the police in all their efforts to save our beautiful Jamie.

"Our hearts will never be the same, he was my world. I am so overwhelmed from the love from our community and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart."

A family friend previously described Mr Markham as a “kind, a lovely man”.

“He would wake up at 5am, come back 6pm, doing the daily routine with the kids, always with the kids,” she said.

“We are devastated for Jamie.

“He was kind, a good person, someone who will always be there for you.

“Anything that you need, he’ll always be there, fixing anything that you need from the house.

She added that he was a “very good person, a man with a good heart, a good soul” and “he didn’t deserve that.”

The suspect appeared at Stratford Youth Court on Friday.

The teenager, who spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address, was remanded in youth detention accommodation to appear at the Old Bailey on Tuesday August 17.

He is set to appear at the Old Bailey on August 17.
