Girl taken to hospital after dramatic rescue from coastal path

A girl was taken to hospital following a dramatic rescue from a coastal path after she 'badly' broke her ankle.

The girl's parents were unable to lift her following the accident and began calling for help at around 6:56pm on Friday ( May 1). The incident happened near Black Nore Light House in Portihead.

Luckily, the daughter of a trained RNIL member heard the shouts and she alerted her parents, Ian and Helen Lazenby.

The couple gave the patient blankets and a chair while they waited for the Portishead coastguard team to arrive.

Crew members then carried her to the roadside where paramedics were waiting to take her to Southmead Hospital.

During a post on the RNLI's Facebook page, Helen said: "We work with Portishead Coastguard regularly on shouts.

"After it became very clear that the parents of the casualty were unable to move her safely it was a quick decision to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard's assistance.

"The team arrived within minutes and with their professionalism and skill were able to move the casualty to the road where after a short wait, an ambulance was able to take her to Southmead.

"Both the casualty and her parents were very grateful for the team's speed and skill in helping their daughter.

"I am so proud of how they worked together and helped resolve a situation, great job’
