The condition of the 7-year-old girl who was shot while trick-or-treating on Halloween in Little Village on the Southwest Side is improving at a hospital.
Her family reported Monday that her condition as been upgraded to fair, according to a statement from Cook County Health officials.
“She is resting and watching her favorite TV shows,” officials said. “Her parents are immensely grateful and overwhelmed by the love and support they have received.”
The girl was trick-or-treating with family when she was shot in the neck about 5:30 p.m. in the 3700 block of West 26th Street, Chicago police said. She had been taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
A 32-year-old man who was the intended target of the shooting was also struck by gunfire, police said.
A 15-year-old boy was arrested and charged with attempted murder the next day thanks in part to immense help from the neighborhood, police said.
Investigators are still looking to identify others who might have been involved in the shooting, police said.
