A schoolgirl suffered deep scratch marks to her face after clashing with another pupil at school.
The incident took place at Liverpool's Broadgreen International School yesterday lunchtime (Tuesday).
A picture of Charly Disley's injuries was later posted on social media by a member of the family.
An internal investigation has now begun into the incident at the local authority-run secondary school.
Charly's cousin, Megan Reilly, from Dovecot, said: "The teachers took Charly to the medical room and an ice pack was put on her face.
"Her older sister came to pick Charly up from school and the cuts on her face were still bloody. She was crying and we were all shocked.
"I've never seen her like that before."
Megan, 19, added that Charly suffers from a form of autism and that incidents like this would be especially challenging for her.
A spokesperson for Liverpool City Council said: “We can confirm that an incident took place yesterday (Tuesday, March 23) between two female year 7 pupils.
"The community police officer linked to the school has visited both families and the school is now conducting an internal investigation."
