Girl's horror as dad gets herpes after she uses his razor - and her mum leaves him

A split-second decision to go to a house party over the Christmas holidays has had serious repercussions for one woman and her parents.

Now, following her parents having broken up, the young woman is torn over what to do.

As she reveals in a very candid Reddit post, the conflict is down to her her parents disapproving of sex before marriage, and the young woman in question being sexually active.

She's worried she's inadvertently given her dad herpes after using his razor.

According to the university student, she "was very shy growing up" but starts to "experiment a little" after leaving home.

"I continued to be somewhat promiscuous and a one night stand turned into be me getting herpes. Awful, but the medication I take now really suppresses my symptoms and makes it very unlikely to pass it to others. Apparently not."

During her third year, she comes home for the Christmas holidays.

She continues: "A boy I had a crush on in high school was going to be at a party I was going to. I was given somewhat late notice and only had a couple hours to get ready.

"I figure who knows what’s going to happen, but I'll give all my areas a good touch up.

"I realize I don’t have any razors at home so I use a disposable one of my father’s. [...] I'm rushing and I cut myself a little. I go to the party, we don’t hook up, no big deal."

A couple of months later, she gets a hysterical Skype call from her mum, who drops the bombshell that she's leaving her dad and they're getting a divorce.

"I FaceTime my dad. He answers and his face is covered in a rash. He's telling me he has herpes, but he never cheated and has no idea how this happened. We talk for awhile and I'm confused and mad and don’t know what to believe."

Two weeks later, she suddenly wonders if she's responsible for her dad contracting herpes. She says her research has shown her it could be possible.

Now her parents are living separate lives, and while she's terrified of telling them, she's desperate to put it right.

As for her guilt, the NHS says passing herpes on through anything other than skin to skin contact is unlikely.

But then that raises questions about how her dad got it...
