Jan. 20--Authorities in San Bernardino County are searching for a 7-year-old girl who was allegedly kidnapped Tuesday by her grandmother, who vowed never to return the girl to her parents.
The parents of Jasmine "Jazzie" Felix left her alone with her grandmother, Teresa Arias, at their home in Highland while they went to work, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
When the girl's parents returned to the home in the 6600 block of Victoria Avenue, the grandmother and their daughter were missing. Arias, 63, called the parents and admitted to taking Jasmine, sheriff's officials said.
Arias said she "was never going to bring her back," according to a statement released by the Sheriff's Department.
Arias, a resident of Madera in the San Joaquin Valley, has lived in the Highland home with Jasmine's family since November, sheriff's officials said. She does not have a vehicle and investigators believe she will use public transit.
Sheriff's officials said that Arias is probably in the Pomona area and trying to obtain funds to pay for a bus trip to Madera.
Anyone who spots Jasmine or her grandmother is asked to contact 911 and alert law enforcement. Anyone with information about the kidnapping is asked to call the Sheriff's Department's station in Highland at (909) 425-9793.
