Girl hiding in box in middle of street survives after being run over by SUV

A young girl playing in a card box has miraculously survived with minor injuries despite being run over by a SUV.

Street surveillance cameras in the Wujiang district of Suzhou, Jiangsu province in east China caught the terrifying moment the girl ran out onto a quiet road and hid inside a large paper box.

A short while later, a white SUV was seen turning into the private road and driving over the box, trapping the girl under the right wheel.

The driver came to a halt after nearby residents ran out yelling at them and rushed to save the girl.

Luckily, the girl survived and was taken to hospital with rib fractures.

The driver, whose name has not been revealed, told Suzhou Police that the box was in their blind spot and did not realise a girl was hiding inside.

It is not clear when the incident took place but police said on Monday the driver was deemed responsible for the crash but did not state any more details, according to Beijing Times.

The girl remains at the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

Online users have since argued that the girl's parents should be given a warning or bear part of the crash claims.

One argued: "Shouldn't the parents watch their child at all times, especially if they went out on the street?"

The other one said: "The parents did not look after their child well! Why would she playing inside a box alone on the street without any adults watching?"
