A man attempted to grab a girl and force her into a car in O'Connor on Friday afternoon.

Police are investigating the incident on Nardoo Crescent, which occurred around 4pm on Friday, July 16.

The girl was walking along Nardoo Crescent when a white Kia Cerato stopped and the driver offered her a lift.

The girl continued walking and the man then got out of the car, grabbed her on the arm and attempted to pull her toward the car.

The victim managed to break free and flee from the man. The man then got back into his vehicle and was last seen driving towards Yapunyah Street.

The assailant is described as aged in his 40s, of Caucasian appearance, balding and approximately 182cm (6') tall. He was wearing a green long-sleeved jumper and jeans.

Police say that if anyone is approached in such a way or someone is in a situation where they feel unsafe, immediately contact them on 131 444 or, in the case of emergency, Triple Zero.

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have any information that could assist the investigation to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website, quoting reference 6850498.
