Girl dumps cat in wheelie bin then returns to check it's still there

A girl has been captured on camera throwing a black cat into a bin and trapping it inside.

Jean Atkinson, 68, from Bransholme in Hull, was shocked when she saw the act recorded on her home CCTV cameras.

She told the Hull Daily Mail she had installed the surveillance system outside her home after having trouble with young people in the area.

When she noticed her bin lid was open, she checked the camera to discover the footage of the girl throwing the animal inside.

“I found my bin open so I checked and saw a girl put a black cat in the bin,” she told the newspaper.

“She came up, she had a black cat in her hand, she lifted the bin lid and put the cat in it.”

The footage was captured on 17 August.

Ms Atkinson said the footage shows the girl coming back to the bin to check the cat is still inside, before walking off.

She was then seen putting rubbish on top of the bin, presumably to prevent the animal escaping.

Ms Atkinson reported the incident to the RSPCA.

The charity has urged anyone with information to contact them on 0300 123 8018.

This is not the first time someone has been caught throwing a pet into a bin and leaving it for dead.

In 2010, 45-year-old Mary Bale, from Coventry, was fined £250 for throwing a tabby cat into a wheelie bin after pleading guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to the animal.

She was filmed stroking the animal before picking it up by the scruff of the neck and dropping it in the bin.
