Girl dies after being hit by car in northern NSW

Forensic police are investigating at the scene of the fatality.

A nine-year-old girl has died in hospital after being hit by a car on the New South Wales north coast.

Emergency services were called to Cameron Road at Boatharbour, on the outskirts of Lismore at 9:30am on Monday.

The girl had suffered serious head injuries after being struck by a Hyundai station wagon.

A NSW Ambulance Service spokesperson said the girl's mother had tried to resuscitate the girl at the scene.

The girl was transported to Lismore Base Hospital, where she died a short time later.

The 54-year-old male driver was also taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests and to be treated for shock.

A crime scene has been established and is being examined by forensic police.

Police are calling for any witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers.

A report is being prepared for the coroner.
