Police have charged a 15-year-old girl with assault following an alleged attack at a high school on South Australia's Eyre Peninsula.

Police were called to the school just after midday on Monday after reports of an assault.

It is alleged the victim, a 16-year-old girl, was assaulted by another student from the school.

She sustained minor facial injuries and was taken to the local hospital for treatment.

The incident was recorded and shared online.

The accused has been granted police bail and will appear in the Youth Court in June.

Education Minister Blair Boyer is visiting the school and the alleged victim's family this afternoon "to make sure they have my support and to do whatever we can to support the community through this".

He said he was hopeful the girl could "re-engage in school" after the "very violent altercation".

"Obviously, it's taken an incredible toll on the family but on the victim particularly, who's not doing well," he said.

"Physically, the victim will recover, which is good, but I think they're doing it really tough at the moment.

"I think it's not at all easy and we're going to have to put a lot of support around this person."
