Girl carried like rag doll in dog's mouth as two toddlers attacked in street

A dog has mauled two little girls in a street leaving them in hospital, one with serious injuries.

Shocking video, which Birmingham Live has decided not to use, shows the attack taking place on the two girls aged two and three.

Both are being treated in Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

They were walking with a woman in St Saviours Road in Alum Rock, just after 12.35pm on Monday (Feb 8) when they were set upon by the dog which bounded across the street.

The video shows the dog launching upon the girls and the woman, pining them to the ground against a wall.

The air is filled with their piercing screams as the woman tries to fight off the out-of-control beast as it drags one of the girl’s around like a rag doll in its mouth.

Alerted by their cries, passing motorists stop and people rush out of their homes to help. One man from a car tries to prize the child away from the jaws of the dog and kicks at it as it fights back.

The dog circles and the two girls are placed in the car for their safety.

The road clears and brave by-standers use wheelie bins to try to defend themselves against the roaming animal.

Shouts of ‘stop, stop’ and ‘the police are on their way, everyone get inside where it is safe’, can be heard.

The dog continues to roam around, standing in the middle of the road.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said it received five calls regarding the vicious attack.

An ambulance service spokesman said: “We had multiple calls reporting a dog attack on two young girls on St Saviours Road in the Saltley area of Birmingham at around 12.35pm this lunchtime.

“An ambulance was immediately sent to the scene.

“On arrival, the crew found the two girls, one with serious injuries.

“They were both assessed and treated at the scene before being taken on blue lights to Birmingham Children’s Hospital where medics were awaiting their arrival.

“Their condition is not life threatening.”
