Girl, 11, fractures skull after being hit by taxi in Renfrew

An 11-year-old girl suffered a fractured skull after she was hit by a taxi in Renfrew.

An off-duty doctor came to the youngster’s aid after she was knocked unconscious in Sandy Road on Saturday afternoon.

Cops said the schoolgirl was with pals when she stepped out in front of the motor at around 4.20pm.

A medic happened to be nearby and went to help the stricken girl before emergency crews arrived on the scene.

The girl was whisked by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, where it was discovered she had sustained a fractured skull during the incident.

No charges are being levelled against the driver as police believe it was a genuine accident.

Inspector Allan O’Hare, from Renfrewshire’s community policing team, said: “Police attended reports of a road traffic accident in Sandy Road, Renfrew, at around 4.20pm on Saturday.

“An 11-year-old girl was injured and was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for treatment.

“She is expected to be released in the coming days.”

He added: “Officers carried out an investigation at the scene and no crime was established.”

Meanwhile in separate incident, a 22-year-old woman has been arrested over drink-drive claims after she flipped her car near a Renfrewshire hotel.

The woman is said to have been four times over the limit when she hit a tree stump and overturned her Mini Cooper at the entrance to Mar Hall, Bishopton at around 7.50pm on Saturday.

The road was closed around 10.05pm as the debris from the incident was cleared.

Police said the woman was taken to hospital and later released.

A force spokesman added: “Police were called to reports of a road traffic accident near the entrance to the Mar Hall estate, in Bishopton, at around 7.50pm. A 22-year-old woman was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
