Police are investigating whether the shooting of a nine-year-old girl outside a home in Sydney's south on Friday night is gang related.

The girl is understood to have been shot in the hip at a property on Queens Road in Connells Point about 6pm.

Paramedics treated the girl at the scene and she was taken to Randwick Children's Hospital in a stable condition.

Sources have told the ABC the house has previously been targeted.

A number of police are at the scene and a police helicopter is over the area.

It's understood there is also a second scene at the nearby suburb of Oatley, police and a fire crew are on site.

In November last year police were called to the property after reports shots had been fired.

Bullet holes were found in the home and a vehicle in the driveway.

Two men at the home were not injured during the attack.
