Girl, 9, pretends to live at house after man tells her to get in car

A young girl was left "shaken" after a man driving a silver estate reportedly asked her to get into his car.

The girl is said to have taken refuge in the safety of a garden prompting the man to drive off.

The worrying incident is reported to have happened on Saturday around 7.50pm on Lovel Road in Speke.

Merseyside Police confirmed their enquiries are ongoing following the incident.

The girl's mum posted up on Facebook to say her daughter had been left "shook up and scared" but had walked into the garden "as if she lived there" and the car drove off towards Central Avenue.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm that enquiries are ongoing following suspicious circumstances in Speke on Saturday night, May 15.

"At around 7.50pm, officers were called to reports that a man driving a silver estate-type car had pulled up alongside a young girl at the junction of Lovel Road and Fenton Close, and asked her to get in the car.

"The incident is believed to have happened around 7.30pm.

"The girl went into a nearby garden and the car drove off towards Central Avenue. She was unharmed but left shaken.

"At this stage the full details of the vehicle and description of the driver are unknown."

Community Policing Inspector Neil Birkett said: “We’re carrying out further enquiries and would ask anyone in the area who saw this incident or has a vehicle registration, CCTV or dashcam footage.

“The girl did exactly the right thing in going to a safe location and ensuring an adult told police.”
