Girl, 9, fights for life after being hit by car while walking home from school

A nine-year-old girl is fighting for her life after being knocked down by a car while she walked home from school.

The schoolgirl is said to be in a critical condition at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge following the crash in Bedfordshire.

She was taken to hospital by air ambulance. Police today appealed for witnesses to come forward.

It happened in Wootton, and involved a grey Hyundai IX20 car at around 4pm.

A spokesman for Bedfordshire Police said today: "The incident occurred close to the junction with Potters Cross, just after 4pm yesterday (Fri).

"The girl was taken to Addenbrooke's by air ambulance, where she remains in a critical condition. The car involved in the collision was a grey Hyundai IX20."

Sergeant Craig Wheeler, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire roads policing unit, said: "We would like to hear from anybody that may have witnessed the collision or the Hyundai being driven along Bedford Road in the moments leading up to the collision.

"In particular, I would also appeal to anyone who may have dash cam footage or CCTV footage of the Hyundai or the collision to contact us."
