Girl, 9, allegedly added to Snapchat group and sent abusive messages by children she did not know

A Bristol mum says her nine-year-old daughter has not been able to stop crying after allegedly being abused on social media.

Police are investigating the incident, which reportedly took place over Snapchat between two primary school children.

The mum of the victim said her daughter was added into a group by other children she did not know.

She was then called a range of names including “white b***” and “white h**”.

The mum said: "My child has been psychologically affected by this, she hasn’t stopped crying and is very emotional. I have reported this to both schools as the perpetrator goes to a different school.

"As this happened out of school it has been stated that it is not a safeguarding issue.

"I feel my child has been failed by the schools.

"If this was adults, it would be considered a hate crime, but because it’s children, it’s not considered an offence.

"My daughter is only just nine years old and the perpetrator is nearly 10."

During the social media chat, which Bristol Live has heard, a girl repeatedly says 'white ass ghost' and 'white ugly pig'.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said they had received a report of a suspected malicious communication sent via social media.

They said: "We received the report on Wednesday 23 September. The victim, a girl from south Bristol, had received the message the previous day.

"Officers have made contact with the victim's family. Enquiries are continuing."
