An eight-year-old girl was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being knocked over by a car.
Northumbria Police officers were called to the scene of the crash on Hailsham Avenue, Longbenton , at about 4.20pm on Saturday.
The girl was taken to hospital with "serious but non life-threatening injuries", and the force has confirmed inquiries into the collision remain ongoing.
A police spokesperson said: "At about 4.20pm on Saturday police received a report of a collision between a car and an eight-year-old girl on Hailsham Avenue in Longbenton.
"Emergency services attended and the child was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
"The driver had stopped at the scene and was spoken to by officers. Inquiries into the collision itself are ongoing."
