Girl, 8, killed, three others shot during St. Louis high school football jamboree

A young girl was shot and killed Friday near a Missouri high school that was hosting a football jamboree. Two teens and a woman were also injured.

Jurnee Thompson, 8, was pronounced dead at a hospital after she was shot in a parking lot Friday near St. Louis' Soldan High School, a spokeswoman for St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department told The New York Daily News.

Jurnee was the 12th child or teen killed by gunfire in St. Louis since April, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

"...First, I tried to see if she was responsive ... found it in her abdomen," former firefighter Mark Vasquez told KMOV. "You could see the life leaving her."

Two 16-year-old boys, whose names have not been released, were also shot and designated to be "in serious/stable condition,"police said. KMOV reported they were Jurnee's cousins.

A 64-year-old woman, whose name has also not yet been released, was shot and is in stable condition.

Soldan High School was hosting the jamboree _ an event with multiple football games _ Friday when "numerous fights broke out as the crowds were exiting," SLMPD explained.

Although a shot was reportedly fired at a nearby high school Friday during their football jamboree, SLMPD does not currently "have any information that the incident is connected," though they noted, "these investigations are ongoing."
