Girl, 7, writes heartbreaking letter to Santa pleading for two basic things

A seven-year-old girl has written a heartbreaking letter to Santa asking him for a home and food for Christmas.

The girl, who has not been named, popped the tear-jerking letter in a special Santa post box inside the L6 community centre in Liverpool.

The hand-written request says: "Dear Father Christmas, can you help.

"Can we have a home for Christmas. Mam wants us to be all together can you give us some food and can I ahave just nice (sic) doll for Christmas. Thank you."

A photo of the picture was uploaded on Twitter by Gerard Woodhouse, a Labour councillor in Liverpool.

He said: "Last week @L6Centre we started getting down Xmas decorations we placed The Santa post box in the cafe until grotto is set up,  Today I went into to @L6Centre to sort food parcels for residents while passing post box I looked in it !! Just read a 7 yrs old letter Vote Labour."

The post has attracted comments from Twitter users who have been touched and horrified by its content.

@s_d_j_h said: "Actually brought me to tears. Sometimes I don’t appreciate how lucky I am but tonight I do."

"A child asking Santa for a home and some food. 21st Century UK, rolling back the centuries," commented @teaceeme .

While @Helsbellss offered to help the young girl.

She said: "Do you know who the little girl is? I will happily buy her a dolly."

Cllr Woodhouse confirmed he knew the girl.

@amanda_nicolson tweeted: "The sweet innocence of a child believing that santa can help.

"Heartbreaking. Why did we let it get this far?"

Cllr Woodhouse is running a crowdfundraiser to help the L6 centre over the Christmas period.

The money raised will support deprived families who will depend on the centre over Christmas and Easter.
