A seven-year-old girl remains missing four months after her disappearance as her mother and stepfather are arrested after alleged satanic imagery was found on their phones.
Little Juliette Le Droumaguet Zapata, of French-Paraguayan nationality, disappeared on April 15 in Emboscada in Paraguay.
The girl was playing on a vast rural farm where she lived with her 10-year-old sister, mother and stepfather Reiner Helmut Oberuber, a German national.
According to the newspaper ABC, the girl's mother, Lilian Zapata, reported her as missing 24 hours later.
A few days later, the girl's mother and stepfather were arrested for breach of the duty of care and abandonment.
According to the newspaper La Nacion, the police analysed the couple’s phones as the investigation continued and discovered alleged photos of a young girl’s genitals on Oberuber’s device.
As a result, the stepfather was also accused of possessing child pornography.
Meanwhile, images of satanic rituals were also allegedly found on both the couple’s phones.
National Police spokesperson Gilberto Fleitas told ABC: “From the beginning, we said this would be the most complicated case of the year.”
The missing girl’s sister is currently living in Switzerland with their father Stephane Le Droumaguet.
He has instructed a group of local lawyers to represent him in the legal proceedings related to the disappearance of his daughter.
Investigators, who are considering various hypotheses regarding the girl’s disappearance, none official at the moment, said they maintain the hope of still finding her alive.
Zapata and Oberuber remain in a pre-trial detention centre as the investigation continues.
