Girl, 6, living in constant pain as mum says her 'future is unknown'

A six-year-old girl is living in constant pain after she was born with bowel issues meaning she has spent her life in and out of hospital.

Jessica Dowle has had issues with her bowels since she was born and was fitted with a colostomy bag when she was four.

In the last year, Jessica has had to undergo surgery three times.

Jessica's mum, Kim Lucock, 36, told the ECHO: "The future is unknown for us. She was only meant to have this colostomy for two years but her body just isn't ready for it [a piece of her bowel] to be put back in. She's still having problems.

"It's quite sad. It's not there to cure, it's just there to manage the condition."

Nearly three years later, Jessica and her mum, Kim, are looking to normalise and remove stigma from stoma bags. Jessica is spending this weekend raising money to help people with bowel problems, and raising money for Buttony Bears for Alder Hey.

Buttony Bears are teddy bears with stoma bags to comfort children suffering with bowel problems and show people that there is nothing wrong with having a stoma bag. The bears are created by the charity A Bear Named Buttony and have proved popular up and down the country.

This Saturday, Jessica will be at the Tesco Superstore in Litherland raising money for Buttony Bear donations and money to help people suffering with bowel problems.

Kim said: "She's going to be at the front of the store. We're going to have the Buttony Bears with us to show people what she fundraises for, she's going to have buckets decorated with pictures of her, and a little table.

"A Bear Named Buttony have also sent us an apron with a colon on to demonstrate to people how a stoma is done with just this apron. It will help bring awareness."
