Girl, 6, found wandering out of holiday camp is a 'parent's worst nightmare', say readers

ECHO readers have given their views after a mum spoke of the moment she got a call to say her daughter had been found wandering alone several streets away from her holiday club.

Pippa Johnston from Wallasey told the ECHO she felt "absolute dread and panic" when she received a call from a member of staff at Premier Education, who were holding a holiday camp at her daughter's school, Liscard Primary School in Wallasey, on Wednesday morning.

She said: "I was with my mum and I could feel the colour draining from me. Your adrenaline hits the roof.

"It's the worst feeling to think your baby was alone, possibly hurt, not knowing where she is, where she's been, what could have happened.

Pippa said her six-year-old daughter had crossed main roads alone and was found by a member of the public - Tina Milns, who lives in Wallasey - walking along Manor Road in Liscard.

Tina flagged down a passing police car who returned Alice, aged six, to the holiday camp.

Merseyside Police confirmed two officers had located a six-year-old girl on Manor Road in Liscard and returned her to the holiday camp.

Premier Education later apologised for the incident and said they were carrying out a "full and thorough investigation.

A Wirral council spokesperson said: "“We have been formally notified about this incident and the Local Authority Designated Officer has started an investigation, working with the school and the third-party provider commissioned by the school to deliver the summer activity programme.

“As a condition of the Holiday Activity Fund, all providers were required to have undertaken safeguarding training and have appropriate policies and procedures in place.”
