Girl, 6, dies after two children hit by car in Scottish town

A six-year-old girl has died and another child has been taken to hospital after they were hit by a car in Paisley.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Johnston Street in the Renfrewshire town about 5.30pm on Saturday.

Police Scotland said the six-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, and a seven-year-old girl was taken to hospital.

Officers are appealing for information as investigations continue.

Sergeant Jack Swindells said: “Around 5.30pm on Saturday April 25, 2026, police received a report of two children being struck by a car on Johnston Street, Paisley.

“Emergency services attended and a six-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene. A seven-year-old girl was taken to hospital for treatment.

“Inquiries remain ongoing and our thoughts are with the family of the girl who died. They ask that their privacy is respected at this time.”

Any witnesses are asked to call police on 101, quoting reference 2786 of April 25.
