Girl, 4, excited about ice-cream van suffers life-changing injuries after being hit by car

A four-year-old girl was run over when she ran across a road from an ice cream van.

The girl suffered potentially life-changing head injuries when she was struck by a silver Mitsubishi L200 car in Burton Latimer.

Northamptonshire police say she ran into Finedon Road between stationary vehicles, one of which was an ice cream van that she had just visited.

She was taken to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge.

The police would like to hear from witnesses or anyone who had CCTV or dash cam footage.

Dione Jayde sat with the girl after hearing the accident outside her house.

She said: "I heard someone beeping their horn and then a bang, then a driver got out shouting so I ran out.

"The driver was shouting and I ran straight over to her. I sat down next to her trying to comfort her without moving her while a passer-by was on the phone to ambulance services.

"My partner and another man stopped the traffic both ways because cars were still trying to come up and down the road but we were sat in the road.

"She was conscious, but very scared crying and she had nasty grazes to her head forehead and cheek."

Another witnesses said the girl's parents were nearby and were in "sheer panic".

Connie Elizabeth said: "Poor little mite seeing the poor parents in sheer panic.

"The girl was awake when she entered the ambulance. The ambulance stayed a while before taking off some what 30 minutes after it happened.

"Thoughts to everyone involved. Hope the baby girl is ok."
