Girl, 4, seriously injured after falling from moving car on busy road

A four-year-old girl suffered serious injuries after falling from a moving car on a busy road.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the A180 in Grimsby at just before 5pm on Sunday (August 22).

Passing motorists told Grimsby Live of their shock at seeing the injured girl in the road, and said she was being cradled by an adult.

Police said she was initially taken to Grimsby’s Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital but was later transferred to Sheffield Children’s Hospital by ambulance with police escort due to the severity of her injuries.

Sergeant John Rickells of Humberside Police praised members of the public who stopped to provide first aid.

He said: "It was good that people stopped and helped.

"It shows the good side of people and it all helps. We are also asking people who have not already spoken to us to contact us with what they saw and especially if they have dashcam footage."

The girl is believed to have fallen from a Kia Sedona GS which entered the A180 westbound.

Sergeant Rickells said police are working to establish the circumstances of the incident.

The road was closed for several hours while the scene and vehicle were examined.
