A four-year-old girl was rescued from her bedroom as a fire engulfed her family home this morning.
Firefighters were quickly on the scene in Hull and found an adult had managed to escape but the child was still inside.
Thick black smoke billowed from the home as horrified neighbours looked on shortly after 11am.
One neighbour told Hull Live : “I was coming down Inglemire and I couldn’t see anything for big black smoke.
"I’ve asked if everyone’s okay and a fireman said they managed to get out okay, but it’s just shocking.
"It’s really scary.”
A man added: “There were kids inside I think.
"It’s so worrying because look at the house. One second and everything’s gone.
"They’re so, so lucky the kids got out.”
A spokesman for Humberside Fire & Rescue Service said: “We were called out at 11.06am and arrived on scene at 11.11am.
“A four-year-old girl was rescued by fire crews from the upstairs bedroom and was left in the care of paramedics. She is currently being treated in hospital for the effects of smoke inhalation.
“An adult was already outside the house when crews arrived and was unable to reach the child as it was too dangerous and the house was smoke-filled.
“Officers are at the scene in order to carry out an investigation into the cause of the fire.”
A spokeswoman for Humberside Police added: "We are working closely with Humberside Fire and Rescue Service to establish the cause of the fire.
"Our officers remain at the property and local travel disruption may continue to be experienced on Oldstead Avenue throughout the day."
