Girl, 4, mauled to death by family's mixed-breed pet dog in their back garden

A four-year-old girl was mauled to death by her dog in her own back garden.

Elayah Brown was attacked by the mixed-breed canine at around 5pm on Friday in Fort Worth, Texas.

The tot died around an hour after she was rushed to Cook Children's Medical Center.

The dog which mauled Elayah has been put down after the child's family handed it over to the City of Fort Worth Animal Care & Control.

The youngster has been described as a 'bright, beautiful and inspiring person' in a GoFundMe page.

The fundraiser, which was set up by Elayah's uncle Reginald Arberry, said: "Our beloved Elayah recently passed on April 30, 2021.

"Elayah was a wonderful daughter, niece, granddaughter, and cousin who touched the lives of those around her. She was a bright, beautiful and inspiring person.

"Elayah was 4 years old when her life was unfortunately cut short from an attack by dogs. She was taken to Cooks Children’s Hospital in FT. Worth Texas.

"We are all devastated by Elayah’s loss and were not prepared for the high cost of a funeral service. We want to give Elayah the memorial she deserves, to honor her memory and say our last goodbyes."

The dog which killed Elayah was put down at Fort Worth Animal Shelter on Saturday, Mail Online reports.

The GoFundMe page was set up on Saturday and has already raised more than $8,900 (£6,397), beating its $8,500 target.

It comes just weeks after a two-year-old boy miraculously survived a dog attack in Wombourne, Staffordshire, thanks to his woolly hat.

Paul-Naylass Passmore was walking to nursery with his mum Courtney Jones, 25, when a dog ran out of a nearby flat and tried to clamp its jaws round his head.

The American Akita bit his scalp, taking an 8 x 5 cm chunk of flesh off his head, and dropped it on the floor.

He dropped down to protect himself, but the massive dog sank his teeth into his lower back, picking him up and shaking him side to side like a chew toy.
