Girl, 3, killed on M6 was coming home from Blackpool day out

A little girl killed in a crash on the M6 was on her way home from a family day out.

Faye Dawson, from Wallasey, died when her mum's Vauxhall Meriva was involved in a crash with a Porsche Boxster driven by a 79-year-old man who also died on the southbound carriageway of the M6 near Leyland on Saturday, November 19.

Her mum and a man who was also in the car both suffered serious injuries in the crash. Police believe the Porsche Boxter was travelling the wrong way on the motorway, having joined at junction 28.

Now friends are rallying around Faye's mum, Beth Dawson and her family. They have set up a GoFundMe page to help fundraise for costs.

They said Beth, her partner and Faye were on their way home from a "lovely day trip in Blackpool" when the tragic incident happened. The fundraising page added Beth also suffered "horrendous injuries" and her partner was also injured.

The GoFundMe said: "I’m setting up this fund to raise money for Beth Dawson who daughter was tragically taken on Saturday 19/11/2022. She had been on a lovely day trip to Blackpool with her mum and her partner.

"Sadly on their way home there was an horrific accident on the M6 motorway which sadly took the life of Faye who was only three-years-old, her mum Beth has got horrendous injuries and her partner is also poorly.

"As you can imagine the family and friends are devastated by this news so I'm asking if you could please help by donating to help her family, for them to not have to worry about any costs because as you can imagine they’re all going through enough right now.

"Thank you in advance for your support. Our prayers are with you all."

Faye's family paid a heartfelt tribute on Thursday, November 24. The tribute said: "Our beautiful Faye Grace, words will never express the heartache we are all going through since you were tragically taken from us.

“We can’t see the future without you, it has left a massive hole in our lives. Everyone says how precious their daughter/granddaughter is but you were an exception, you were such a clever little girl who was very funny and had us all laughing all the time.

“You were so loving and caring and above all very loved by everyone who met you. You’re now at rest with your great nanny, great grandad and Uncle Jimmy.

"Words won’t justify how much we are all going to miss you and how much we all love you. Your mummy is being so brave and she will continue to make you proud.

“You were too little to be taken away from us, but we know the angels will look after you and they’re lucky to have you dancing in the sky with them. We are all so heartbroken that you were taken far too young but we are so glad that we got to have you for the time we did. “RIP baby girl, we are all missing you and will carry on forever. All our love.”

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: "Investigating officers suspect the Porsche Boxster was travelling in the wrong direction on the carriageway when the collision happened, having entered the motorway at junction 28 via the southbound slip road.

"If anyone who witnessed the collision hasn’t come forward yet, we ask them to do so. Also, if any drivers have dashcam footage from the motorway around the time of the collision, we are appealing for them to contact us."

Sgt Craig Booth, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This collision has left both families grieving in a way most of us will never understand.

“On behalf of Lancashire Police and the investigation team I would like them to know our thoughts are with them all, they are being supported by specially trained officers as a result of this traumatic incident.

“I feel I also need to mention all the emergency services who attended who are also trying to come to terms with what happened.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact 101, quoting log 1102 of November 19, 2022.
