Girl, 3, killed by Plymouth gunman beside male relative before he died too

A young girl was shot and killed next to a relative by a rampaging shooter who claimed five lives.

The child, who has not been named publicly yet, was gunned down moments before a male relative of hers was also fatally hit.

They both lost their lives in Keyham, Plymouth at the hands of Jake Davison, a 22-year-old licensed gun holder who posted disturbed videos on Youtube and wielded a pump-action shotgun, according to witnesses.

Moments before they were slain a woman known to the shooter, who likened himself to the Terminator in a video, was fatally shot.

Davison would go on to shoot at least four more people before killing himself, Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed today.

At a press conference this morning Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer described the murdered girl as "very young", although her exact age is not yet known, and said she was "shot next to a male relative".

Eyewitness Sharon told The Times that the gunman opened fire on a girl who looked about five-years-old while dressed in black and grey and armed with what appeared to be a semi-automatic weapon.

"This was a truly shocking event and was witnessed by members of the public," Chief Constable Sawyer told gathered reporters.

"Further along Biddick Drive he aimed and shot at two local residents - a man and a woman - who received significant but we understand, at present, not life-threatening injuries."

He said they were being treated in hospital.

"From there, Mr Davison entered adjacent parkland where he immediately shot a man who died at the scene," Mr Sawyer said.

"Thereafter he moved to Henderson Place where he shot a woman."

The woman died in hospital later.

He added: "Eye witnesses told us Mr Davison then turned the gun upon himself, taking his own life."

The police chief would not be drawn on the relation between Davison and the first woman he killed.

It's not clear whether the suspect knew the rest of the victims.

"We believe we have an incident that is domestic-related and has spilled out into the street and seen several people within Plymouth losing their lives in an extraordinarily tragic circumstance," he said.

Asked whether any motive has been identified, the Chief Constable says investigators are "not considering terrorism or a relationship with a far-right group or any such other group".

Mr Sawyer praised the response of the emergency services and locals, adding: "The community of Plymouth is strong."

He also urged people not to contact the police unless it was "truly an emergency," adding: "We are now very, very busy."

Mr Sawyer confirmed Davison was a firearms licence holder and said there was "no motive" at present.

He added: "We are not considering terrorism or a relationship with any far-right group."
