Girl, 3, and brother, 5, die after fire ripped through their home

Two young children have died days after a fire trapped them in their house.

Lancashire Police were called shortly before 8pm on April 8 to an address on Coronation Crescent, Preston following reports of a fire with several people trapped inside a terraced house. A mum and her two young children were brought out the address and taken to hospital.

The mum, aged in her 20s, suffered injuries which were not life-threatening but her children, aged three and five, died in hospital after being admitted in critical condition. Medical intervention was withdrawn yesterday and a file will be passed onto HM Coroner in due course.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police told LancsLive : "Our thoughts are with their loved ones at this incredibly difficult time. The children’s family continued to be supported by specially-trained officers."

A joint investigation between Lancashire Constabulary and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service to determine the cause of the fire is continuing. A 24-year-old man arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life was initially released under investigation pending further enquiries. He has now been released with no further action.

Detective Chief Inspector Rach Higson, of the Force Major Investigation Team, said: “This tragic incident has resulted in two children sadly losing their lives and my thoughts, first and foremost, are with their loved ones at this time. Our enquiries into the cause of the fire are continuing.”

Anybody with information is asked to get in touch with police on 101, quoting log 1305 of April 8th.
