Girl, 2, suffers life-threatening injuries after plunging 40ft from bedroom window in Portsmouth

A toddler suffered life-threatening injuries after plunging 40 feet from a bedroom window.

The two-year-old girl is thought to have fallen from the window three-stories up on Bedford Road, Portsmouth.

Police raced to the scene at about 6pm on Thursday and confirmed the child had “life-threatening injuries”.

She was initially fighting for her life as she was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital.

Police said her condition is now “serious but stable”.

Hampshire Constabulary confirmed that a 29-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, both from Portsmouth, have been arrested on suspicion of neglect of a child to cause unnecessary suffering/injury.

The pair have also been arrested on suspicion of possession of a weapon for discharge of a noxious liquid, gas or electrical incapacitation device and possession of a class B drug.

They remain in custody and detectives are continuing to probe what happened.
