Girl, 2, rushed to hospital after growling family dog bites her face in mauling

A toddler has been rushed to hospital after being attacked by a family dog in a mauling witnessed by her dad.

The ravenous hound bit into the two-year-old girl's face shortly after 1.30pm on Monday in Osborne, Port Adelaide, Australia.

She was rushed to the city's Woman and Children's Hospital after sustaining superficial facial injuries.

Speaking to local media, her dad said he heard growling before witnessing the dog mauling his daughter.

Officers attended the property and the dog was removed after it was surrendered by the owner, a spokesperson for the City of Port Adelaide Enfield Council said.

Footage from the scene shows the enforcement agents leading the bull terrier-type dog out by its muzzle, and putting it in a cage fitted to the rear of a vehicle.

A neighbour recalled seeing ambulances "everywhere" along the street after the attack

A spokesperson for South Australia Police said the matter is now being dealt with by the local council.

An investigation has been launched to decide whether the dog needs to be euthanised.

Earlier this year, a little girl was left missing half her smile after the family's rescue puppy turned into a "man-eater" in under 24 hours.

Rebekka Bolline fostered three-year-old pooch Tater Tot from a local animal shelter on March 15, after three-year-old daughter Emily Roark asked for a pet dog.

However, the mum-of-two thought the toddler was going to die when Tater Tot "ate some of Emily's face" the following day.

Emily was softly stroking the dog's back as they sat on the living room floor together when the pet turned and snapped at the child's face, sinking its teeth into her cheeks and lip.

The pup then began to brutally shake the child from side to side as mum Rebekka screamed "in terror" and tried to get him to unlatch his teeth.

After the dog released its grip seconds later, the traumatised tot was swiftly driven to the Slidell Memorial Hospital in Louisiana, US - but the damage had been done.

The shocking attack left Emily with half of her right cheek hanging off, as Rebekka claims that the dog "ate through" her face and "ingested" some of her flesh.

The resulting muscle damage has left the youngster unable to smile on one side of her face.

Rebekka claims she was told the dog was a Labrador-retriever mix but now fears it had some Pitbull in it.

She says Emily and Tater Tot were "very sweet together" and the dog even let the tot kiss it on the snout, making the bite wholly unexpected.

In another recent horror case, a coyote mauled a toddler on a driveway while his distracted mum was unloading the car.

Surgeon Kelly Pirozzi, from Arizona, US, was left stunned after her 21-month-old son was knocked down and bitten by a coyote on Wednesday afternoon.

CCTV footage captured the moment the animal creeps up on the toddler before grabbing hold of the boy's arm.

The coyote then releases the boy's arm after he starts to scream as his mum turns around and ushers her son indoors after he suffered minor bite marks.

Mrs Pirozzi said the attack "happened so quickly" but thankfully he didn't suffer any further injuries.
