Girl, 2, rescued after tumbling out of mum's van because she wasn't strapped in

A police officer has been praised a hero after saving a toddler who fell out of a moving van.

Footage taken by Deputy John Harris' bodycam shows a two-year-old girl tumbling out of a black mini van in the middle of a traffic stop and hitting the ground in north Tulsa,Oklahoma.

Harris, who was less than 30 feet away, springs into action and runs across the road to pick up the terrified girl.

He brought the girl to the patrol car before the girl's mother returned after realising what had happened.

The mother allegedly admitted the girl and her siblings were not in car seats or wearing seat belts.

Deputy Harris recalled the moment he picked up the girl and told KTUL: "She was just terrified.

"She had no idea what had just happened to her, and as I scoop her up, she just looks up at me.

"I'll just never forget that face.

"We were all just happy that the little girl was OK. I mean, that was the main point: that she's OK."

The two-year-old sustained a few cuts and scrapes from the fall and her mother received a ticket as the police deemed it an accident.

Tulsa County Sheriff Vic Regalado said: "Although serious, it wasn't a tragedy and it could have been a lot worse.

"We hope that the mother will take this as a life lesson and buckle her children up later."
