Girl, 17, fighting for life after falling from bridge in Bolton

A 17-year-old girl is fighting for her life in hospital after falling from a bridge in Bolton.

Police were called to the A666 St Peters Way at 3.40pm this afternoon to concerns over the welfare of a female.

Officers believe the girl had fallen from a bridge.

She was taken to hospital, where she is in a critical condition with a head injury.

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances involved and they are not looking to speak to anyone else in connection with the incident.

St Peters Way was closed northbound at the junction with Raikes Lane following the incident.

The closure resulted in lengthy delays in the surrounding area.

Drivers were asked to find an alternative route while bus routes into Bolton town centre were diverted.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Officers were called at 3.40pm today (28 July) to the A666 in Bolton to concerns over the welfare of a female.

"It is believed a 17-year-old woman fell off a bridge and has been taken by ambulance to hospital, where she is in a critical condition with a head injury.

"There are no suspicious circumstances and no-one else is being sought in connection with the incident."

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We have responded to a casualty who has fallen from a bridge.

"A female was taken to hospital in a critical condition."
