Girl, 16, 'saves' teenage boy who fell on her back after 20ft plunge from rocks

A teenage boy was saved when he accidentally landed on a girl's back after plunging 20ft from rocks.

Lana Holt, 16, had been coasteering with her family at Port Gaverne near Polzeath when she was hit by the 14-year-old boy.

The collision was so strong that she hit the rocks in the head. However luckily she had a helmet on to protect her from serious injuries.

Both were given first aid immediately until a coastguard helicopter airlifted the boy to the hospital on Thursday afternoon.

A spokesman for the Polzeath-based coasteering firm ERA Adventures said: "She could have saved his life."

Lana, from Launceston in Cornawall, told BBC that she was sitting on a ledge when the incident took place.

She explained: "He sort of landed on my back.

"I fell forward and hit my head on rocks, but I was wearing a helmet which I think saved me.

"I could have been really hurt!"

Stuart Parry, an ERA instructor and lifeguard, said the boy climbed above the coasteering group without warning them he was there.

He said the boy had slipped and fallen on top of Lana and she broke his fall.

"He is one very lucky boy," Mr Parry added.

The boy's condition is not yet known.
