Girl, 16, dies after being hit by car on busy Glasgow road

A 16-year-old girl has been tragically killed after being knocked down by a car in Glasgow last night.

Emergency services were called to Great Western Road, the A82, just before 8pm last night.

The smash took place in the Drumchapel area where the road meets the junction with Garscadden Road, close to the old Garscadden Police Station.

As a result of the incident a section of the road was closed while cops investigated the scene.

The teenager was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University hospital but died when she arrived.

Police have now revealed that a 16-year-old girl was killed in the tragedy.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “A 16-year-old girl has died following a collision on Great Western Road last night. (Saturday 5 December)

"Officers were called to the incident, near to the junction of Garscadden Road, around 7.45pm after reports a pedestrian had been hit by a car.

"The teenager was taken to The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where she passed away.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
